From La Belle Époque to the 21st Century: “The French Connection”
Miró Quartet, umama womama and more
Concert & Wine
Friday, March 11th, 2022 at 7:30 p.m.
This program traces a “French Connection” between Impressionist music from turn-of-the-century France and its echoes in later years. Beloved works by Debussy and Ravel reveal shared resonances with Brazilian composer Heitor Villa-Lobos, who spent much of his life in Paris, as well as the newly-formed trio of virtuoso composer-performers, umama womama. The program features the world premiere of a new trio by umama womama, and the celebrated Miró Quartet assists in the Southwest premiere of an octet arrangement of Debussy’s orchestral masterpiece, "Prelude to the Afternoon of a Faun."
