SUMMARY:See Jane Run: An Indo Story
DESCRIPTION:See Jane Run: An Indo Story \n\n\n\nMonday\, October 27 \n\n\n\n7:30pm – Show begins  \n\n\n\nRuntime: 75 minutes \n\n\n\nA solo memoir play written and performed by Guest Artist Dr. Jane Vogel Mantiri \n\n\n\nco-presented by The Bridge Initiative and ASU Kerr \n\n\n\nThis play is a universal story that confronts grief\, inspires hope\, and is steeped in love. It is an exhale after decades of silence.  \n\n\n\nIndo refugee immigrants fleeing Indonesia after World War II suppressed their Indo identity because it was a source of danger and shame. Indos wanted their children to be spared the pain\, and encouraged\, cajoled\, and pressured them to assimilate to a new culture. Now Indos around the world are calling out to each other to tell their stories\, and reclaim their identity before the culture vanishes. For their ancestors and for future generations\, the rich legacy of Indo culture lives on in storytelling.   \n\n\n\nThis play is one Indo’s story about love\, loss\, generational trauma\, racism\, forced displacement\, resilience\, and being happy. Jane’s dream is to tour her play in Indonesia\, the Netherlands\, and throughout the United States\, retracing her family’s Indo refugee odyssey in honor of her family and the global Indo community. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n“Dedicated to Mama whose magnificence was overshadowed \n\n\n\nby a world riddled with storms.“ \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n“If See Jane Run comes to a theatre near you\, do not hesitate– go see it. Jane doesn’t just perform; she kills it. This is theatre at its most personal and potent\, and it’s not to be missed.”  -Sankar Raman\, Founder of The Immigrant Story \n\n\n\n“There were moments I couldn’t breathe\, and other moments I couldn’t move. And by the end\, I couldn’t speak. I was so overcome by all that I had seen and heard! Thank you for sharing yourself with us in this very personal and profound way!” -Leroy Bynum Jr.\, Dean of Portland State University School of the Arts \n\n\n\nCo-directed by Andres Alcala and Jane Vogel Mantiri  Sound and projection design by Andres AlcalaGraphic design by Kaelan StrousePhotography by Brooke Hoyer \n\n\n\nCONTENT NOTE:  This play references violence\, abuse\, and loss. SUMMARY:Unstandard: Songs in the Key of She
DESCRIPTION:Unstandard: Songs in the Key of She \n\n\n\nFeaturing Felicia Penza with Cory Dugar \n\n\n\nCo-presented by The Bridge Initiative and ASU Kerr \n\n\n\nA genre-bending cabaret built from deep cuts\, unsung verses\, and the kind of songs you stumble on when your heart needs saving. Unstandard isn’t a tribute—it’s a mixtape of memory\, longing\, and reinvention\, told through the soulful edges of artists like Jill Scott\, Amy Winehouse\, Bonnie Raitt\, Bob Marley\, and Cécile McLorin Salvant. \n\n\n\nSinger Felicia Penza with Pianist Cory Dugar takes the audience through 10 musical movements—charting a course from infatuation to unraveling to epiphany—with storytelling\, humor\, and R&B/jazz-infused reinterpretation. From the B-sides of breakups to the grooves that kept her grounded\, she reclaims each track as a personal act of reflection\, healing\, and self-love. \n\n\n\nWhether you know the songs or not\, you’ll feel the through-line: \n\n\n\na woman unspooling her story—on her own terms\, in her own key. \n\n\n\nAnd… you have a chance to perform! Before each musical cabaret\, bring your sheet music to sing during the 7 pm preshow. SUMMARY:The Bridge Cabaret - PLUS! co-presented with ASU Kerr
DESCRIPTION:“Taking the Wheel” a musical cabaret with Damon J. Bolling and Collaborative Pianist Josh Condon  \n\n\n\nFrom Damon J. Bolling: ‘Taking the wheel’ is about choosing to live with intention—to no longer drift through life as a passenger\, but to steer your own course\, even when the road ahead is uncertain. That choice takes love\, and it takes courage. It took me a long time to understand that life doesn’t simply happen—we have to meet it halfway\, with open hands and an open heart. Nothing is promised\, nothing owed. To begin\, we must be brave—and sometimes even fearless enough to try\, to risk\, to hope. \n\n\n\n“The songs I’ve chosen for this performance are often sung by women\, and that’s no accident. They are an ode to the strong women who shaped me—who showed me what resilience\, grace\, and love look like. Through their strength\, I learned to find my own. \n\n\n\n“I’m still on that journey of becoming\, of reaching\, and of trying—and if you are too\, I hope these songs bring you comfort\, and a sense of connection. SUMMARY:The Bridge Cabaret - PLUS! co-presented with ASU Kerr
DESCRIPTION:Bringing you the best local talent\, The Bridge Cabaret – PLUS! features traditional cabaret performances with a couple of play and musical theatre readings thrown into our calendar to keep you on your toes! \n\n\n\nApril play reading: The Joy of Theatre by Germaine Shames \n\n\n\nSynopsis: Four thespians\, longtime friends\, test the bounds of artistic expression under the watchful eye of an autocratic regime. When they stage a controversial play\, the consequences exceed their worst nightmare. This is a darkly comedic sociopolitical fable about the fragility of creative freedom and what one seemingly powerless band of misfits willingly risks in its service. \n\n\n\nPlaywright Shames shares\, “I wrote this play because democracy needs theatre as much as theatre needs democracy.” \n\n\n\n \n\n\n\n**This program is made possible\, fully or in part\, by a grant fromScottsdale Arts with funding provided by the City of Scottsdale. SUMMARY:Broadway Curious: Stage Mother Earth
DESCRIPTION:Co-Hosted by Brenda Foley and Will Rogers with Musical Director Raymond Cusick \n\n\n\nPart cabaret\, part talk show\, BROADWAY CURIOUS is our chance to see the world through musical theatre-colored glasses. \n\n\n\nHosts Brenda Foley and Will Rogers use musical theater to spark curiosity about everyday topics from food to the environment in this innovative musical cabaret/talk show and newsletter. Join us for live performances by the Valley’s top talent and conversations with the area’s most engaging minds. \n\n\n\nTo kick off our season\, we bring Mother Earth center stage where she belongs. The music spans from musical theater standards to work in development\, and the conversation will bridge early nature worship to space travel and explore how theater and science intersect. \n\n\n\nFeatured Guests:Savannah Alfred\, Rachel Bowditch\, Daniela Crispo\, Lance Gharavi\, Simone Sanchez with a special treat from writer/lyricist/composer G. Victoria Campbell \n\n\n\nCome early for the bar and the opportunity to chat with the artists before the show\, then indulge in our digital newsletter with content from the live show as well as additional goodies to satisfy and pique your curiosity. \n\n\n\nCash bar opens at 7 p.m.
