SUMMARY:Seffarine
DESCRIPTION:Globally-acclaimed singer Lamiae Naki was born in the ancient city of Fes\, Morocco. Her ensemble Seffarine channel their profound knowledge of the music of the intersection of Middle Eastern\, African and European cultures: both sides of the Straits of Gibraltar. From the ninth to 15th centuries these cultures coexisted in peace\, bringing into being a musical alchemy that influenced the foundations of classical Arabic and European Renaissance music. \n\n\n\nToday\, Seffarine embraces and extends the rich legacy of this incredible age of tolerance and exchange between Muslim\, Jewish and Christian cultures by creating innovative works reconnecting this shared Mediterranean DNA. Imbued with color and texture\, Seffarine concerts transport the audience on a vast musical journey as they express the joy of the sounds and dance of North Africa and southern Spain. Envelop yourself in Seffarine’s expansive world where Arabic\, Persian classical\, Spanish flamenco\, Andalusian music and jazz meet. \n\n	\n\n\n\n\n \n\nEnvelop yourself in Seffarine’s expansive world where Arabic\, Persian classical\, Spanish flamenco\, Andalusian music and jazz meet.

SUMMARY:Phoenix Chamber Music Society and ASU Kerr co-present Dover Quartet\, Soovim Kim (violin) and friends
DESCRIPTION:Part of the PCMS Festival XIV – David Shifrin\, Artistic Director \n\n\n\nBask in the glory of music for expanded string ensembles by Mozart and Mendelssohn\, two short-lived composers of long-lasting music. Both composers began as child prodigies and neither lived to see their 40th birthday\, but left behind the exuberant\, genre-forming pieces on this program. Mozart’s C Major Viola Quintet comes from the composer’s maturity and inspired beloved string quintets in the same key by Beethoven and Schubert. Mendelssohn\, on the other hand\, wrote his high-octane Octet when he was just 16\, creating the blueprint for future string octets by composers from Enescu to Shostakovich. Don’t miss this incredible pairing of two great masterpieces for strings in the hands of members of the Dover Quartet and renowned guest artists! \n\n	\n\n\n\n\n \n\nBask in the glory of music for expanded string ensembles by Mozart and Mendelssohn\, two short-lived composers of long-lasting music.
