SUMMARY:The Local Spirits
DESCRIPTION:THE LOCAL SPIRITS are a Phoenix-based instrumental quartet that puts a creative spin on instrumental music. These four established Phoenix musicians have come together to create a musical group that channels Jazz\, Rock\, Bluegrass\, Country\, Blues\, Middle Eastern\, and World Music flavors into a style of their own. Guitar and mandolin twin harmonies are woven into drum and bass grooves\, creating a genre-defying sound that makes this quartet uniquely creative. They released their 5-song EP in May 2024 and have been releasing singles of new material in preparation for a full-length album. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nBill Dutcher (Guitar)Bill has been an independent recording artist and performer for over 35 years. In that time\, he has established himself as a nationally recognized solo-acoustic performer\, studio musician\, and music instructor. He is the producer of the Extreme Acoustic series at the Musical Instrument Museum\, now in its tenth year. He has also represented L.R. Baggs Electronics and Lakewood Guitars from Germany at NAMM (National Association of Music Merchants) trade shows. Bill’s talents include six- and 12-string acoustic guitar\, Hawaiian guitar\, and the rare harp guitar. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nGeoff Jouas (Drums/Percussion)Two days after graduating high school\, Geoff hit the road as a full-time performer with his band EastonAshe. Over six years\, he recorded three albums and toured extensively throughout the Midwest and East Coast. He has an endorsement with The Maryland Drum Company\, and still plays that kit to this day. Over his 20 years of drumming\, Geoff has played with Jay Allan and The Uncommon Good\, Rose Colored Eyes\, Nameless Prophets\, Capital Down\, and American Dali. He brings a blend of passion\, precision\, and deep musicality to every performance. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nMark Miracle (Mandolin)An award-winning mandolinist\, Mark Miracle has played Bluegrass/Americana music for over 40 years. His global performances and expertise have made him a sought-after bandmate\, guest artist\, and teacher. Mark’s style transcends traditional Bluegrass\, embracing experimental sub-genres like Newgrass. He brings harmonic magic to the band’s songs through his spontaneous melodic interplay with acoustic guitar\, crafting intertwined harmonies that leave a lasting impression. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nTracy Mortimer (Bass Guitar)A Denver native who’s called Arizona home for the past 38 years\, Tracy began playing professionally at age 13 and is a graduate of the Musicians Institute Bass Program in Los Angeles\, CA. He’s toured with an impressive list of artists and was the bassist for Sugarloaf in 1990. In 2004\, he toured with Alligator Records recording artist Long John Hunter\, and has also performed with The Drifters\, The Platters\, The Contours\, and Melba Moore. Tracy is also a member of tribute bands Don’t Look Back (Boston) and Listen to the Music (Doobie Brothers)\, and was a founding member of The Groove Merchants and Chester White and the Soul Pigs. \n\n	\n\n\n\n\n \n\n\n\n	\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nInstagram \n\n\n\nFacebook \n\n\n\nSpotify

SUMMARY:The Bridge Cabaret - PLUS! co-presented with ASU Kerr
DESCRIPTION:“Taking the Wheel” a musical cabaret with Damon J. Bolling and Collaborative Pianist Josh Condon  \n\n\n\nFrom Damon J. Bolling: ‘Taking the wheel’ is about choosing to live with intention—to no longer drift through life as a passenger\, but to steer your own course\, even when the road ahead is uncertain. That choice takes love\, and it takes courage. It took me a long time to understand that life doesn’t simply happen—we have to meet it halfway\, with open hands and an open heart. Nothing is promised\, nothing owed. To begin\, we must be brave—and sometimes even fearless enough to try\, to risk\, to hope. \n\n\n\n“The songs I’ve chosen for this performance are often sung by women\, and that’s no accident. They are an ode to the strong women who shaped me—who showed me what resilience\, grace\, and love look like. Through their strength\, I learned to find my own. \n\n\n\n“I’m still on that journey of becoming\, of reaching\, and of trying—and if you are too\, I hope these songs bring you comfort\, and a sense of connection. We are all navigating life in our own way\, but for a moment\, through music\, we travel together.” \n\n\n\n7 p.m. Preshow7:30 p.m. start \n\n\n\nOpen piano bar and song share will begin at 7 p.m. – bring sheet music to sing accompanied by our pianist on ASU Kerr’s gorgeous Steinway. Please arrive early to participate in this fun pre-show activity. \n\n\n\n**This program is made possible\, fully or in part\, by a grant from Scottsdale Arts with funding provided by the City of Scottsdale. The Bridge Initiative projects this season are supported in part by a CCG grant for general operations from the Arizona Commission on the Arts\, which receives support from the State of Arizona and the National Endowment for the Arts.** \n\n\n\nLearn more about The Bridge Initiative at bridgeinit.org

SUMMARY:Qais Essar
DESCRIPTION:Experience the wonder of classical music from Afghanistan and India at the historic ASU Kerr\, loved for its incredible acoustics and cherished by the Indian classical music community. \n\n\n\nQais Essar opens a sacred sonic time portal connecting the ancient Hindu Kush mountain region to today. As a contemporary Afghan composer and musician\, he uses the rabab\, a 2\,500 year old lute-like instrument\, to blend traditional Afghan music with contemporary influences that range from Western rock and indie folk to the evolving traditional sounds found along the Silk Road. \n\n\n\nQais will be joined by Shreyas Iyer. His intricate rhythms on tabla are a perfect complement to the rabab. Expect Indian classical raga\, plus folk songs from across Afghanistan\, all in Qais’ signature style. \n\n\n\nQais has toured extensively\, sharing his sounds globally and selling out venues from the US to Australia and beyond. Experience a performance in the intimate\, casual and historic setting of ASU Kerr. \n\n\n\nHe performed with the Oxford Philharmonic\, Stephen Malkmus and composed for the Oscar-nominated film “Three Songs for Benazir.” He also contributed to “The Breadwinner\,” produced by Angelina Jolie and directed by Nora Twomey. His original song “The Crown Sleeps” earned him a Canadian Screen Award. \n\n\n\nThis concert is a perfect opportunity for newcomers to explore Qais’ unique signature sound and for fans of more traditional forms of Afghan and Indian music to witness true virtuosos in action.
